Programming
Public Service Announcements (“PSAs”)
For several months now, WCAT, working with the town, has produced PSAs/News segments related to important town events and happenings to further inform residents of valuable information. WCAT encourages local groups and business members to submit information for PSAs to highlight their activities and upcoming events that may be of interest to the public.
Movies by the Lake
Movies by the Lake is in its 9th year. Currently, the following contributors have provided funding: Multiplatinum Contributors (all four movies) are The Savings Bank and The Lakeside Inn. Other sponsors include First Parish Congregational Church, The Gingerbread Construction Co.; Wakefield Rotary, The Farmland, The Scholarship Foundation, and Friends of Lake Quannapowitt. WCAT could not host the movies (July 11, 18, 25 and August 1) without support. It costs $2,700 to put on each movie night which includes a 32 foot movie screen with quad sound, licensing for each movie, movie posters, and a Wakefield Police detail. For information on being a contributor, e-mail Barbara.worley@wcat.tv or call 781-224-0300. Donations also welcome – mail to WCAT P. O. Box 1708 or donate on www.wcatwakefield.org.
“The Item Minute”
WCAT, collaborating with the Wakefield Daily Item, will continue a once-a-week (until September) segment, “The Item Minute.” This series is hosted by Wakefield Memorial High School student intern Cavan Hill and will run across social media platforms in short vertical formats such as Reels and YouTube Shorts. Full horizontal versions will also air on the channel.

Religious services
Each week, WCAT airs religious services of several local churches on the Public Channels (Verizon-40, Comcast-9, or RCN-3).
The WCAT member churches regularly re-broadcasting their services are Emmanuel Episcopal Church, First Baptist Church of Wakefield, First Parish Congregational Church, Greater River Church and St. Joseph Church. That’s 23 services total weekly which is a great use of public access TV. All of these churches conduct the filming and provide the link to WCAT. Contact the church or Barbara Worley if you would like the specific schedule.
WCAT also airs Crossroads Christian Church of Peabody because one of the pastors is a Wakefield resident. Additionally, we also air First Baptist Church of Woburn (which started during Covid and hasn’t stopped), and we air Good News with Bill Robinson and Learning the Bible with John Gouvalaris. Those last two are aired late at night.
