Town Council, School Committee, The Room to Write, and boys volleyball this week at WCAT

During the construction of the new high school, WCAT will be changing its mailing address. Rather than sending mail to the Hemlock Road address, please address mail to WCAT to P.O. Box 1708, Wakefield, MA 01880.

Monday

At 7, the Town Council will hold a hybrid meeting with most members expected to be in the studio.

 

Tuesday

At 7 p.m., the School Committee will hold a hybrid meeting with most members expected to be in the studio.

 

Wednesday

The Wakefield Education Foundation (WEF) will hold their celebration of learning awards ceremony at the Galvin Middle School. This will be livestreamed by WCAT.

Thursday

In the morning, Laura Williamson of Bare Fitness will film another workout program in the studio.

At 5:15 p.m., the varsity boys’ volleyball team will host the Burlington Red Devils in a contest between two Division 2 rivals. Brian Seto, Wakefield’s new head coach, will be on the sideline.

Last year the Warriors were 3-14 while Burlington finished their season at 13-7.

Friday

At 11:30 a.m., Colleen Getty, Founder of the Room to Write, will interview a local poet, Eddie Brophy, who also happens to work for North Reading Community Access TV (NORCAM). He released his second poetry book “Neurotica for the Modern Doomscroller” in October 2023.

 

Programming

“The Item Minute”

WCAT, collaborating with the Wakefield Daily Item, continues their twice-weekly segment,
“The Item Minute.” This series is hosted by Wakefield Memorial High School student intern Cavan Hill and will run across social media platforms in short vertical formats such as Reels and YouTube Shorts. Full horizontal versions will also air on the channel.

Parking

Please be aware that parking for the WCAT and Wakefield Memorial High School will be impacted as construction of the new high school gets underway beginning this week. Visit the project website for updated information – https://wakefieldmhsproject.com/

 

Movies by the Lake

WCAT is excited to host the host the popular Movies by the Lake series for the ninth year. An average of 300-350 area residents come together as WCAT turns the lower common on Lake Quannapowitt into a large outdoor movie theater on Thursday nights.

This spring, over 600 area residents helped pick the 2024 movies with an online poll. Stay tuned for updates on the movies that have been voted on by your friends and neighbors!

Each week, WCAT airs religious services of several local churches on the Public Channels (Verizon-40, Comcast-9, or RCN-3). New WCAT member Emmanuel Episcopal Church will join this group by airing four services each week: Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (prior week’s services), Wednesday at 8 p.m., Friday at 4 p.m., and Saturday at 5 p.m.

 

Public Service Announcements (“PSAs”)

WCAT, working with the town, has begun producing PSAs/News segments related to important town events and happenings to further inform residents of valuable information. Recent PSAs have covered a request for help with the 4th of July Parade. These segments are broadcast as well as uploaded to YouTube and posted to Facebook.
