‘In the Middle,’ ‘Step Up,’ basketball and hockey this week at WCAT

Tuesday

The Friends of Lake Quannapowitt will hold their monthly meeting in the conference room while “Step Up – Men Against Violence” will reconvene for a meeting in the main studio.

5:30 p.m., WCAT and Commentator Tymothy Brown will cover the varsity girls’ basketball game against Burling. This will be followed, at 7 p.m., by coverage of the varsity boys’ basketball contest, also against Burlington. Both games will be livestreamed and will be uploaded to WCAT’s YouTube channel immediately following the games.

 

Wednesday

At 9:30, the Executive Board of Wakefield Alliance Against Violence (WAAV) will meet in the conference room.

At 11:30 a.m., the Youth Council will hold a hybrid meeting with most members expected to be in the studio.

At 3:30 p.m., The Wakefield Creativity Lab, a program of the First Baptist Church in Wakefield, and WCAT will record another session of “In the Middle,” a media learning opportunity for middle school students in Wakefield who’d like to be on TV or take steps to be an influencer.  “In the Middle” provides students with an opportunity to create their own unique show.

Other sessions will be held on Wednesdays from February 14 to March 27 (snow dates April 3 and April 10). There will be no session on February 21 due to school vacation.

 

Saturday

WCAT and Commentator Tymothy Brown will travel to the Stoneham Arena to cover the varsity girls’ hockey game against Stoneham at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity boys’ hockey match up against Stoneham at 6 p.m. Both games will be livestreamed and uploaded as soon as possible to WCAT’s YouTube channel.

Each week, WCAT airs religious services of several local churches on the Public Channels (Verizon-40, Comcast-9, or RCN-3). New WCAT member Emmanuel Episcopal Church will join this group by airing four services each week: Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (prior week’s services), Wednesday at 8 p.m., Friday at 4 p.m., and Saturday at 5 p.m.

Public Service Announcements (“PSAs”)

WCAT, working with the town, has begun producing PSAs/News segments related to important town events and happenings to further inform residents of important information. Recent PSAs have covered a request for help with the 4th of July Parade, a congratulatory message to Wakefield native Commander Shelby Nikitin, and information on the 2024 Census Forms. These segments are broadcast as well as uploaded to YouTube and posted to Facebook.
