Memorial Day, Pride flag ceremony, Community Recognition award, WMHS graduation and more this week at WCAT

Tuesday

Yesterday, WCAT was on hand at the Galvin Middle School to film the Memorial Day ceremony.

Earlier today, students from the Odyssey Day School were in the studio to film a Public Service Announcement (PSA) on homelessness. NE Voices, students from NE Metro Tech, were in the podcast studio to record another program.

Wednesday

Colleen Getty of The Room to Write will be back in the studio for another in “The Journey of a Story” series. Her guest will be Lisa Varchol Perron, a children’s author and poet whose work has been featured in numerous anthologies, journals, and magazines. Her 2023 books are Patterns EverywhereMy Love for You, illustrated by Sheryl Murray, and Tell Me About Space, illustrated by Jennifer Falkner (part of the Tell Me About series). Perron holds graduate degrees from New York University and UC Berkeley and now resides in Melrose.

Thursday

At 5, the crew will be covering the Pride Flag raising ceremony at the Americal Civic Center. Also, that afternoon, Cheryl Webb Scott and her crew will be in the studio to film another program in the “Total Woman” series. Barbara Worley and Tom Stapleton will convene another meeting of the “Feel Good Community” at 3:45 p.m.

Friday

Ally Houghton, WCAT Board President, and Barbara Worley, WCAT Studio Administrator, will accept The Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield’s 2023 Community Recognition Award while WCAT crew, interns, and volunteers will be at Landrigan Field to set up equipment prior to graduation. They will return to Landrigan on Saturday to film Wakefield Memorial High School’s Graduation Ceremony.

Movies by the Lake

Movies by the Lake is returning for the eighth year. An average of 300-350 area residents come together to attend a large outdoor movie theater on Thursday nights every summer.

The movie dates are July 13, 20, and 27, and August 3. The rain date (used for only one movie) will be August 10.

Returning movie sponsors-to-date (and movies sponsored) included Rebirth Body Transformation Center (4), The Savings Bank (4), Boys and Girls Clubs of Stoneham and Wakefield (1-2), Floramo’s Restaurant in Wakefield (1), Wakefield Rotary (1), Kids’ Test Kitchen (1), and The Gingerbread Construction Co (1).
