Last Friday, the WCAT staff welcomed Sam Huntley to the team as the new Media Production Specialist. Huntley most recently served as the Operations Manager for Granby (MA) Community Access and Media.
Earlier today, WCAT Producer Dominik Chadwick was at the Senior Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to film the center’s holiday party.
Tuesday
Tuesday at 9 a.m., the Wakefield Unified Prevention Coalition (WakeUp) will hold a meeting in WCAT’s conference room.
At 3 p.m., the North East Metro Tech “NE Voices” will return to the podcast studio for another session.
At 7 p.m., the “Step Up: Men Against Violence” working group will hold a meeting in the conference room. This is a partnership between the Melrose, Stoneham, and Wakefield Alliances Against Violence to develop a network of individuals and organizations to work with men and boys to promote and cultivate a culture of gender equality, mutual respect, and healthy relations.
Wednesday
Wednesday morning at 8:30, the Wakefield Alliance Against Violence will meet in the studio. These meetings are not televised.
At 3 p.m., David Watts, Jr. will host Steve Maio for another session of the “Town Administrator’s Report.”
Wednesday night at 6, WCAT and Commentator Tymothy Brown will cover the girls’ varsity basketball game against Stoneham. The game will not be livestreamed but will be uploaded to WCAT’s YouTube channel immediately following the contest.
Friday
On Friday, WCAT will begin its end of year maintenance and upgrades. Studio visits will be by appointment only from December 22, 2023 to January 2, 2024. All scheduled event coverage will still take place during this time.
Programming

Each week, WCAT airs religious services of several local churches on the Public Channels (Verizon-40, Comcast-9, or RCN-3). New WCAT member Emmanuel Episcopal Church will join this group by airing four services each week: Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (prior week’s services), Wednesday at 8 p.m., Friday at 4 p.m., and Saturday at 5 p.m.
Public Service Announcements (“PSAs”)
WCAT, working with the town, has begun producing PSAs/News segments related to important town events and happenings to further inform residents of important information. Recent PSAs have covered details on the town’s water main flushing, detours in place during work on Montrose Avenue, commuter rail track work, and detours on Salem Street. These segments are broadcast as well as uploaded to YouTube and posted to Facebook.
