This week at WCAT: First Baptist Church, return of Movies by the Lake, and government meetings

Tonight

Wakefield’s Town Council will hold a hybrid meeting at 7 p.m. with members in the studio.

Tuesday

At 6pm, the School Committee will hold an Executive Session in WCAT’s conference room. At 7:30 p.m., the committee will meet in a hybrid setting with members in the studio.

Wednesday

WCAT’s Ryan Boyd, Executive Director, will interview members of the First Baptist Church to discuss their plans to rebuild the church. The Friends of Lake Quannapowitt will hold their monthly meeting in WCAT’s conference room.

Wednesday at 3 p.m., Colleen Getty, Founder of The Room to Write and WCAT board member, will hold a video podcast (vodcast) with Valerie Bolling from New York who will be participating remotely.

Bolling became picture book author after being inspired by a visit from her nieces in December 2016. She wrote two stories in which each of them was the protagonist. Shortly after, she decided to pursue becoming a published author. In June of 2017, Bolling started writing query letters to agents and editors and began to participate in Twitter pitches. In June 2018, an editor at Boyds Mills & Kane, and less than two weeks later, she received the news that her book had been accepted for publication.

In addition to writing picture books, Bolling has written a Monthly Memo for teachers that is published on Twitter and she has been published in The National Writing Project’s Quarterly and NESCBWI News.

Bolling has a B.A. in English from Tufts University and from Columbia University, Teachers College, an M.A. in Elementary and Middle School Education.

“Movies by the Lake”

“MOVIES BY THE LAKE” kicks off its seventh season on July 14.

WCAT’s “Movies by the Lake” returns for its seventh year starting this week on July 14. Additional movie dates are July 21 and 28, and August 4 with a rain date of August 11. At these movies you’ll be charmed, and you can sing, too. You’ll find out who to call in the afterlife and, if it’s your day off, you can twist and shout.
